HOW TO GET HERE
By car:
from VENICE - FLORENCE: Highway A4 Trieste - Torino direction Padova, Milano until Padova (ca. 20 km). At Padova take the highway A 13 direction Bologna (ca. 120 km). At Bologna take the highway A1 direction Firenze (ca. 80 km). At Firenze take the highway A11 Firenze - mare direction Pisa Nord. ". Leave the highway at the "uscita LUCCA OVEST" (65 km).
from PISA: autostrada A 11 direzione Firenze, uscita LUCCA Ovest.
from MILAN - GENOA: in Milan take the highway A7 Milano - Genova direction Genova (ca. 120 km). At Genoa take the highway A12 Genova - Livorno direction Livorno. At Viareggio (ca. 120 km) change highway and follow the indications to Lucca - Firenze. This is a very short highway which connects only Viareggio with Lucca and has no number. Leave at "uscita LUCCA Ovest".
from ROME: highway A1 Napoli - Milano direction Milano until Firenze (280 km), at Florence take the highway A11 Firenze-mare direction PISA-NORD". Leave the highway at the "uscita LUCCA OVEST" (65 km)

After having paid at the tollhouse keep right and follow the indications:

after 20m turn left and follow Viale Einaudi, informazioni
at the 1st traffic light go straight ahead and cross the bridge, standing on the left lane
at the roundabout walk straight, direction "Viareggio,Pisa"
stand on the right line now
at the 2nd traffic light walk straight, direction "Viareggio"
stand on the left line now
at the 3rd traffic light (on your left you will find a BRICO and a LIDL supermarket) turn left
you are now on the Viale Puccini, which is even called Sarzanese
go ahead for ca. 1 ½ km and cross the bridge on the river
after the bridge turn left, direction Nozzano Castello
follow the road long the river bank (ca. 3 km) and turn right when you find the directional mark "Nozzano Castello"
at the beginning of the village there's the Restaurant Ristorante Il Borghetto
turn left into the Via di Nozzano and after 20m turn right
go up and find the medieval street door
after the door turn soon right and find the Villa del Castello.
By Bus:
There is a regular and comfortable bus connection from Florence (railway station) to Lucca more times daily. Other busses connect Lucca to the minor centres in the surroundings as Pisa, Viareggio, Montecatini Terme, Pistoia, Bagni di Lucca, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana a.o. Even from Pisa Airport starts a bus to Lucca several times daily. See Autolinee Lazzi.
By train:
Lucca has its own railway station and is well connected with Florence, Pisa, Viareggio and Prato (coming from Bologna). So wherever you come from, you probably have to change your original train in one of these railway stations.

If you rent a car at Pisa Airport: leaving the airport follow the green indications "autostrade" (highways). Take the highway "A12 Genova - Livorno" direction "Genova" until Pisa nord (ca. 5 km), then follow the highway "A11 Firenze - mare" direction Firenze until "uscita LUCCA OVEST" (ca. 15 km.) Than see indication "Coming from USCITA LUCCA OVEST".
Coming from Pisa Town: Follow the indications for Lucca, S. Giuliano Terme. Leave Pisa in this direction and follow the road until S. Giuliano Terme (6 km). There you must pay attention: at the traffic light turn left. Follow the road for 500m ca. and turn right, direction Rigoli.
Go ahead until Ripafratta (a little village with a castle). At the end of the village (pay attention!) you have to turn left and follow the indication Filettole. Cross the railway track and the river and turn right at the next junction, direction Nozzano Castello.
When you enter in Nozzano Castello turn left and follow the indications to Lucca. At the end of the village you will find the Ristorante Il Borghetto.
Turn right (Via di Nozzano) and after 20m turn right again.
Go up and find the medieval street door. After the door turn soon right and find the Villa del Castello.
