VILLA DEL CASTELLO IN LUCCA
The ancient Tuscan village of Nozzano Castello is on the famous medieval road, the via Francigena, 7km from Lucca and 15km from Pisa. Its castellated tower rises proudly above the plains of the river Serchio, and played an important role in the defence of Lucca during the wars against Pisa.
The gracious Villa del Castello is the oldest building inside the historic town walls of Nozzano Castello, and brings to life 700 years of history. It is situated in a secluded position at the foot of the castle, and is reached by passing through the town gate and along the small street.
The Villa was built on the first circle of walls constructed in 1300, and backs on to the original rock face. It was lovingly and tastefully restored by the Dalli family in 1843, and the di Biase family in 2003, and contains much astonishing evidence as to its historic and noble past.
The two appartments, which we have named 'delle rocce' (the rocks) and 'delle vecchie mura' (the old walls), each quite unique, have been skilfully redecorated and furnished in period style, whilst preserving many truly remarkable and beautiful original features.
Thanks to their original furnishings, all dwellings will allow you to dream and fantasise on distant times.
Villa del Castello can comfortably accommodate up to 18 guests.
Nozzano Castello is an ideal base from which to explore the art and culture of towns such as Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Pistoia and Volterra (all within easy reach), and also for relaxing trips to the nearby coast, hills and mountains.
